Happy Wednesday!

Hi!

We made plans with our son's family to go to the Benton Rodeo. Being on the rodeo circuit is our small town's claim to fame.

When I say 'small town,' I'm not exaggerating. Between 2020 and 2023, Benton Borough's population dropped from 821 to 494—for comparison, my graduating class in the Philadelphia Suburbs was around 800. Most of Benton's decline traces back to the 2018 flooding along Fishing Creek, which destroyed homes and displaced residents. Thankfully, the town is beginning to thrive again.

Speaking of thriving, it's nearly time to celebrate America's 250th birthday. We haven't made any plans yet, but maybe we'll go to the Bloomsburg fairgrounds since they have something going on there. Do you have plans?

I'm hoping the fireworks here in Sugarloaf Township will be kept to a minimum as our critters don't like them one bit.

As always, I want to pray for you, so please hit reply and share your prayer requests.

FROM MY WRITING DESK

I'm about halfway through the book I'm writing, so that's progress though it's slower going than I'd like.

The paperbacks for the upcoming release of Critical Threat (Book Two in the Honor Bound Hearts Collection) are now available for ordering direct from Ingram Spark. That's the collection that includes my latest novel, Blast Radius.

I may grab myself a Kindle Colorsoft and see how my children's books look on them (I have two goat picture books under the penname Ellie Mae Kay). I made a new list on Amazon called 50 Fabulous Book Ideas for Grandchildren.

Anyone have a Colorsoft? I didn't want to purchase the first generation because the technology changes so quickly.

I made that mistake with the Scribe. I love it, but I think the newer ones will be better. They even have a color version now.

How about you? Are you grabbing any Amazon Prime day deals? Maybe a new Kindle Paperwhite? I'm sad that they stopped making the Oasis, which is my everyday reader. It's reminiscent of when they stopped making the more expensive, higher quality Kindle Fire HDX in favor of the cheaper versions. Sometimes, I prefer to spend a bit more for something of higher quality that'll last longer. I don't know why everything has to be made to be disposable these days.

FARM NEWS

We had some serious winds that brought down the top of a tree, so Farmer Joe went out and cut it down the rest of the way. The goats enjoyed the leaves. I also collected a bunch of oak and maple leaves that had fallen and brought them into the pen. Freshly fallen leaves make them exceedingly happy. We have to be careful though because many plants are actually poisonous for goats, so we can only give them ones we know are safe.

In other news, Joe discovered a cut on Bobbie's side, but it had already scabbed over by the time we saw it, so we're leaving it alone unless it swells or opens back up.

Otherwise, things have been relatively quiet on the farm this week. Unless, of course, you count the chicks living in our spare room. They have healthy lungs and always seem hungry no matter how much food I give them.

If you want to catch Sadie falling asleep on the job, check out this week's video.

LAURA SCOTT

Falling for the outlaw…

Owen Ross has made some bad decisions in his life, including asking his crew to kidnap nurse Emily Sanders to care for his gunshot wound. He made sure Emily wasn’t harmed prior to escaping her cop brother’s attempt to put him behind bars. While determined to seek revenge against the man who murdered his brother, he can’t forget Emily. And when someone tries to kill him, he fears Emily may be in danger, too.

Emily has done her best to put the kidnapping attempt behind her but deep down, her feelings are tangled up in knots over Owen. She shouldn’t be attracted to a man who’d broken the law more times than she could count. When Owen shows up on her doorstep, she’s shocked and begs him to turn himself in. Owen refuses, but when a man breaks into her house he rushes to the rescue and promises to keep her safe. Danger stalks their every move and Emily begins to pray for a future with the outlaw who stole her heart. But when Owen makes the ultimate sacrifice—his life for hers—she fears it may be too late.
