The weather has been beautiful this week in North Central Pennsylvania. I've been sitting out on the screen porch with my laptop enjoying the fresh air.

The goats are annoyed with Farmer Joe for cutting the pastures. Darcy, in particular, has made her disgust known. She reaches her head through the fence to take a mouthful of grass from the other side and then turns to look at Joe and then repeats the process. It's almost like she's saying "look what you're making me do." In doggie news, Sadie's been digging in the barn and that gets Farmer Joe all frazzled. Every once in a while, she gets a bug up her behind and decides to be ornery. I sincerely hope she settles down soon. Our white German Shepherd, Maddison, sat beside her food bowl and watched calmly as a blue jay came and stole a kibble. The blue jays do this often, but it's the first time she was caught letting one take it. I guess she believes in the old adage that sharing is caring. On the bird front, the chicks have been living in the chicken coop for a week now. The first couple of nights they spent locked in a crate inside the coop to get the other chickens acclimated to their presence, but for the past five days or so, they've been free to roam around the inside of the coop and the chicken pen area. Today they're free-ranging for the first time. I hope they go inside tonight without any trouble. They should since they know where they live by now.

This August, I’ll be in Memphis, Tennessee for ACFW Storyfest, and I would love to see some of you there. Storyfest was created for Christian fiction readers. It takes place August 27-29, 2026, at The Peabody Hotel alongside the ACFW Conference. Readers will have opportunities to sit at author-hosted tables, attend a session with Jaime Jo Wright, enjoy author panels, take part in reader events, attend the multi-author booksigning, and have Saturday lunch with Karen Kingsbury. You’ll also receive a tote bag full of books and author swag, so you may want to leave extra room in your suitcase. If you register, there is a “Referred By” field. I would be grateful if you would list Elle E. Kay there. You can register here: https://acfw.com/2026-storyfest-reader-registration/

My job is to save lives. When I end up fearing for my own, my family hires a protection specialist, who happens to be my best friend and secret crush. I’ve been in love with Carter for the past two years, adept at hiding my affection for him. All that’s about to change when random gifts start showing up on my doorstep, and mishaps follow me wherever I go. When events begin to escalate, I’m left with no choice but to flee. The annual family ski retreat provides the perfect opportunity to escape my troubles…and Carter. But when he comes to the resort, hired by my siblings to protect me, I know I have to face my fears and my feelings for him. Far away in a small town, miles from civilization, the truth comes out as our past and present collide. We band together and risk it all to make our last stand in a battle to save our future. Will our devotion to each other be strong enough to weather the storm? Or will it tear us apart?
