Hope you had a fantastic week. It's raining here in North Central Pennsylvania. Again. I'm trying to keep that attitude of gratitude, but these overcast days do get me down. I'm longing to spend time on the screen porch enjoying some sunshine, but that'll have to wait for clearer skies and warmer temperatures. Speaking of gratitude and perspective, some of you may remember that PRAYER is my word of the year. I've been intentionally focusing on prayer more than usual, which led me to pick up a book this week called "Confessions of a Prayer Slacker." It's been a wonderful read. While I already know the verses and truths that Diane Moody shares, the refresher and encouragement to prioritize prayer has been exactly what I needed. I highly recommend it if you feel your prayer life could use some strengthening. On that note, if I can pray for you this week, please hit reply and let me know how. I'd be honored to lift you up. My replies were getting stuck in my email platform instead of forwarding to my inbox, but I think I've worked out that bug.

Farmer Joe cleaned the chicken and duck houses and spread manure the other day, so everyone is enjoying nice clean living spaces. Tom turkey has been spending his days up on the shelf above the nest boxes - his chosen sleeping spot. Since he's been alone, nobody else uses the perch anymore, and we should probably take it down. I've been letting him stay inside with his food and water brought up to his shelf rather than trying to move him. He gets too upset when I attempt to relocate him, winds up flying out on his own, and ends up reinjuring his foot. I figured if we left him alone long enough, his foot might heal enough for him to get around better. Today was encouraging - he was actually down off the shelf when I went out to feed them. Meanwhile, our older rooster has stopped going inside at night. I think he's afraid the younger rooster will attack him. He's been sleeping peacefully in the barn with the goats instead, though I do feel bad that he's separated from the rest of the flock. As for the goats, Farmer Joe is pacing himself differently this year, trimming just a couple of hooves at a time rather than tackling the whole herd in one day - we're both getting older, after all. We'll also be giving them their copper bolus soon, so we need to pick up some bananas to stick the boluses into.

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this delightful book. I've adored Pepper Basham's characters Freddie and Grace in all of their adventures, and Highland Heist was no exception. It may just be my favorite in the series—though it’s hard to top The Mistletoe Countess, so I’m still undecided. This installment had a couple of plot twists I didn’t see coming.
It’s a fun, surprising, page-turning adventure—and the fact that part of it takes place in Scotland, in a castle no less, made the story all the more delightful.

I loved the way Traci Hunter Abramson intertwined national stakes with internal conflict and individual history to create a page-turning drama that kept me guessing. The story follows a bullied boy who's grown up but must return home to confront both his past and the high school bullies who never outgrew their obnoxious behavior - a setup that adds personal stakes to the larger drama. Highly recommend.
